Book of Shadows
A Book of Shadows can be a very personal item. Like all the Sacred Tools that a Witch uses, your BoS should be cleansed & charged when you first get it... Whether you purchase it, or make it yourself, the BoS will need to be first cleansed and then dedicated and then charged. These steps in creating your new BoS are very important.
What goes in a Book of Shadows
In my Book of Shadows I have allot of Information!
I keep this information in sections, so that I can just grab a tab and flip it open to the section I am looking for.
Organization is Very important, Trust Me!
When I offer a simple Book of Shadows (such as the one in the pic on the left) I separate each subject into sections, and add tabs, so that the information can be readily accessed.
I include allot of basic information, since this BoS is pretty plain and simple, it is designed for a new witch, someone who is just learning the craft... But I have all of this information included in my BoS as well... mostly because I like to refer to different information when I am writing a new spell or ritual...
I keep updating and changing some information as time goes by... or as I study a new Traditions or Path.
I think it's important to have allot of information about Correspondences... so I have a very thick section in my BoS...

For my BoS pages I like to have an old look and feel... I like the 'Charmed' Book of Shadows... so I stain my pages with coffee or tea; usually coffee, because the coffee grounds give the pages a unique color, design & texture that I like.
In my personal BoS, I like to add bits of this or that to the pages. Usually it's bits of the spell components, like herbs, dried flowers, or leaves, bits of bark from a tree... This allows me to concentrate my energies more fully upon the spell. Besides, I like the way it looks...

I find symbolism in different things... I have always been attracted to Trees... I find peace beneath their branches. When a Tree Spirit speaks to me most strongly, I ask for a piece of their bark, and I search the ground near the tree, and that is how I gather bark or branches from certain trees. I think that you should never gather anything that you haven't asked for. That includes flowers & stones. I like to walk along the river bank and look for bits of stuff... I feel the presence of the Faeries most strongly along the river bank. Here in Yuma we have the Colorado river that flows past us.
